Treasure Island Setting Sail

June 6, 2020

This month our theme is Treasure Island. This post may contain affiliate links. This week is Setting Sail and we learned about Islands, Boats, Captains, Wind, and Sunshine. We have so many wonderful books for this topic.

We have a fun music cd each month and there are videos that go along with it. I love the curriculum because each week has it’s own teacher’s book with daily activities. There is always a bunch of fun things for them to do.

These boys loved making a spyglass with thick paper and markers. Each month we have a magnet set that goes along with a book. They loved pretending to be pirates looking for treasure.

These kids wore their captain’s hats around all day after they made them. They were pretty easy to make so the fun in this craft was the playing with them. We watched videos with captains and boats.

The videos we watched on sailboats was really fun. They enjoyed the Invitation to Create making them. We learned that wind is what helps them to go. We also looked at older ships that used sails to power them. They each cut their paper into sails so they all look different.

June is a great month to learn about sunshine. We used this Invitation to Create craft for a PNO. They took cotton balls and yellow stripe straws to make a really neat picture of the sky. We taught the kids how to pull apart a cotton ball without taking it completely apart.

What do you like about being on a boat?
