Our Furbabies
April 18, 2020
I haven’t written as much as I should have about our furbabies. I am going to do my best to change that from here on out. We have three sweet girls, one who is a mix pup and two that are Australian Shepherds. I want to share about each one since I haven’t done much at all.

Harley Quinn is actually my older daughter’s rescue pup. She got her when she was between a year or year and a half. She is turning 16 this year. Harley has lived with us for quite awhile now. We had a bit of a scare with her in 2015. We had another dog then, a black lab mix. They were in the backyard. It was the 4th of July and there were fireworks. Someone opened our gate and both dogs ran off. We found out that our lab mix dog had been hit and killed by a car MANY miles from our home. We didn’t find Harley. We all looked for her all over the city, even places that seemed too far for her to go. We had heard that if you put clothing on your porch that they can find their way home. So we wrapped clothing around the posts on the front porch. One morning, very early, about a week after the dogs got out, my husband found her on our front porch! It was a miracle! She has always been a sweet girl, overly cautious. Since she was a rescue pup, we feel like it is possible she was not treated very well. She is very gentle but shies away from kids when they are too wound up.
Two years ago, May 2018 we brought Roxie Moxie Blues home from Tanner Hill Farms Australian Shepherds in Mineral Wells, Texas. My youngest daughter was originally looking to get a red merle from the litter that Roxie was a part of. But there was only ONE red merle in the litter and she became spoken for before it was our turn to choose. I had fallen in love with this blue merle puppy so I decided to get her for myself. Her markings are so striking and she has a wonderful personality. She can be a bit excited but calms down and is great with children. Over the past two years, Roxie has engaged Harley in play more than she’s ever played before. It is our belief that Roxie kept our Harley alive longer than she would have been had we not gotten a pup. Roxie turned 2 in March of this year.
I began thinking about adding a black tri to our family because Roxie’s mom is a black-tri and so gentle and sweet. I don’t want Roxie to be alone when Harley was gone but I didn’t really think I would add a new pup for awhile. When I talked to Lisa at THF about getting a black tri girl in the next year she immediately told me about a couple pups from a litter that was born mid February that needed homes. I looked at the pictures of both and fell in love with this little girl with the lightning stripe on her forehead and a heart shape around her nose. I thought long and hard about it. Getting a pup right now while we are stuck at home and have time on our hands to house train a pup was a plus. Having her integrated into our family BEFORE Harley was gone made total sense. If we waited then Roxie would surely mourn much more than if we already had another pup. It was settled. We would add this beauty to our family Easter Sunday.
The day we picked her up she was so shy and just sat in my lap. She did lot of sleeping the first 36 hours she was here. After that, she lost her shyness and has been getting to know everyone. There are many she hasn’t gotten to meet because everyone is supposed to stay home. I can’t wait for my oldest two grands to meet her. My granddaughter loves Roxie so much. I know she will adore Zoie, too. Roxie took a few days to warm up to Zoie but I think they have finally gotten used to each other. We took it slowly after Roxie showed a bit of uncertainty. She growled a bit the first night. Of course, Zoie wants Roxie to pay attention to her and will roll over and show her belly. Roxie isn’t sure what to think about it just yet. I know they will be great together. Zoie’s mom is actually Roxie’s litter mate, Lady.
If you are interested in Australian Shepherds, I highly recommend them THF. You can find out more about the dogs at Tanner Hill Farms on the FB page or the website. They have amazing dogs there and it is run by a fabulous lady that I proudly call my friend. Right now, I believe they have two litters that were born last month. I’m not paid to say this, I just love my pups and I believe that breeding is one reason that I have such great pups. Lisa takes such pride in the dogs she has and the breeding she does. And if you contact Lisa about a pup, tell her Terri at A Simple Texas Girl sent you! Like I said, I don’t get anything for it but I love for people to know when I recommend them to someone.
I hope you have enjoyed learning about our girls. I will be posting more updates on them and their adventures from now on. If you have a special pet, tell me about them in the comments. Y’all have a great weekend!
