Organizing My Curriculum

November 26, 2019

I can’t say that I came up with this idea on my own, because I didn’t. I am a part of a HUGE network of other teachers and we share ideas. I started using this curriculum in September of 2018. The first year I struggled with how to keep it organized while at the same time going through the entire 20 days of work BEFORE the new month started. I knew I wanted to find something that worked better than just stuffing it back in the box or taking it out one day at a time. Someone shared this filing system over the summer. When I was getting supplies for the new school year I grabbed the things to create this filing system. It works like a charm! I wish I had found it from the beginning.

Experience Early Learning Curriculum has each day packaged individually with MOST of the supplies needed. It doesn’t have the basics like glue, scissors, tape, etc. I like to take each day and look at the teacher’s book while I putting each days resources in the folder with that number. I cut things apart that need it. I put things in ziplock baggies. This way, I get an overview of our entire month before we even do day one. It comes with four teacher’s books. I put each one in “Monday’s” folder and move it as the days go on. It ends up in “Friday’s” folder at the end of the week.

Some things are used more than once but it is super easy to find. There is a basic resource guide at the beginning of each week’s guide book. I just find what day it was from and check that folder. I have a folder at the front for circle time board resources, one for the basic resources for the entire month, at the back I have a couple of folders for the older children’s MORE Literacy and MORE Math workbooks with the same theme as the rest of the curriculum. Everything in ONE place! And super easy to use every day.

If that alone wasn’t enough to “sell me” on this curriculum, there is a BIGGER reason that I love it. The kids absolutely LOVE doing the activities. They enjoy the topics each month and the sub topics each day. They are able to use their imagination with art projects. Their excitement is the second factor in why I chose THIS curriculum.

I’ve been teaching preschool for twenty years and in that time I’ve tried numerous ways of doing it. Last year, I just felt compelled to give Mother Goose Time a try after getting information about it in the mail for quite some time. I’m sure it has changed over the years. They have learned what does and doesn’t work. They have improved their product and continue to do so. THIS was the RIGHT time for ME to give it a try. It is the PERFECT fit!

I will be posting some neat projects that we have done this past year and will share the new things we are doing each week. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I’m here to share what I am learning to help other teachers and children have more fun in their learning experiences.
