Ice Castle

We will be starting our new unit this week and it is going to be a really fun one. Here in Texas, we don’t see much “winter” weather or experience a lot of ice or snow. Funny that tomorrow we are supposed to have temps in the low 20’s, since that is totally NOT the norm. This post may contain affiliate links. Our Experience Curriculum‘s theme for December is Ice Castle. Our four weekly themes are Ice & Snow, Alpine Tundra, Tundra Animals and Life in the Arctic.
I always start preparing to teach by unboxing my curriculum. I have a filing system for the teaching supplies and each day’s lesson and supplies. It makes it super easy each day to just read over the lesson and gather the extras needed for the activities. Ever since I started keeping them this way, teaching has been more fun because it saves me time and mental effort. I just get to grab it, set it out and watch their faces light up as they create and experiment.
The theme poster is so cute with all the winter animals. I just know we are going to have a blast. SEVERAL of the craft ideas will be very cute ornaments for their trees with just a tiny bit of adjustment. We ALWAYS make as many ornaments as we can to send home for their own trees. It’s pretty cool to know some are already in my lesson plans for this month. We actually have less class time since we are closed two weeks of December for the holidays. We do have two PDO/PNO so we will carry some of the crafts over to those days!
We always enjoy the magnets and puzzle that match our books for the month. My two year old grandson really does well with the puzzles and it has encouraged him to do more of them. We put the magnet set on the entrance door because we attached a large oil pan to it as a magnet board. Works great and it was only $8 plus the command strips to hang it.
I can’t wait to dig into this theme and share how we turn many of the crafts into ornaments for the tree! Plus, our school will be getting a minor makeover to get ready for our new semester that starts January 4. Stay tuned!
