Hickory Moon Anniversary Trip

Picture
April 2, 2019

Let me tell you about HICKORY MOON! It had to be a God-thing that I found this place. I looked for cabins and getaways IN Texas but really didn’t find what I was looking for. Someone mentioned Broken Bow, OK so I thought “sure, couldn’t hurt”. Only a three hour drive. That was doable. I found many different options that would have been alright. Most had more than one room.

When I first saw this cabin, I wasn’t sure, until I saw the bathroom! Give me a HUGE tub that will fill up with hot water and I’m happy! It didn’t have a hot tub and some people said that was a must. It didn’t really matter since it had that beautiful tub. We talked about it and it wasn’t something we would have used anyway. It was super cold outside and the thought of getting in the tub and having to get out of it into the cold air was not something that sounded fun to me.

Hickory Moon was PERFECT! The kitchen was amazing. It was fully furnished and had everything we could think of except the actual food to prepare. The dishes were beautiful. I wish we would have used it to cook more than we did but it was enjoyable just making cocoa and sitting at the little two-person table talking.

Both the front and back porches had great views. The back porch has super comfy chairs to sit in. I enjoyed getting to sit out there listening to nature all around me with minimal traffic going by. The cabin is made very well and has so much character in the way it was built. We, personally, love the log cabin look and the stones used outside and inside.

The cabin seemed really large because of the way the ceiling was built. It never felt like we were in a small space. The bedroom had a king-sized bed. It was the smallest of the four rooms because the double-sided fire place was farther in that room than the living area. That worked out just fine because you really don’t need a huge amount of space for anything other than the bed and some walking space. There was plenty. They hid the full-sized washer and dryer in a closet space. You would never know it was there. There was a sliding glass door to open to the back porch.

The bathroom was my FAVORITE room! A sliding barn door is there to close if you want to but the ceiling is all open to each room. The toilet is in a small room, like an out-house inside, that closed completely, even the ceiling. There is a double sink with those glass bowls, very cool! The LARGE tub sits on a platform with a rock wall separating it from the double walk-in shower! This room is larger than the bedroom and has a spa feel to it. John enjoyed the shower and I enjoyed the tub. The bathroom had super soft towels and plenty of washcloths.

The fire place is gas so no need for wood. The grill is a charcoal grill, you need to bring some if you want to use that. There is a fire pit outside and wood is provided. The weather turned cold the day we got there and we intended to use the fire pit to make s’mores but we decided not to.

The only thing we hated about the trip was having to leave! We are planning to go back as often as we can get away from the busyness of our lives. I’m hoping for a longer stay next time. We LOVED it! We give it FIVE STARS because everything about it was just what we enjoy.
