Carrying Babies
January 19, 2020
We started week two of Baby Animals talking about how different animals carry their babies. This post may contain affiliate links. Some carry them in their mouths. Our first Experience Early Learning Make & Play craft was a Fishy Cup with markers and tape. They had sticker eyes and taped on the fins. We used the cups during snack time to eat goldfish since fish carry their babies IN their mouths. They got a big kick out of that.
This month we have a sorting game with lower and upper case letters with “monkey mats” with Rr and Ss on them. They get to pick a card and place it where it goes. We played it with the cards facing up first. After that they had to turn the cards over and pick one without looking. Our Experience Early Learning curriculum has proven to have resources that the children are eager to use and ask to play them over again on different days throughout the month.
One of the cutest Make & Play crafts we did was the tortoise. The kids enjoy using markers so we let them decorate them with markers before attaching the legs and head. We used the glue dots that were in the resources to attach them. When using pom poms it makes it challenging to attach with just glue.
We use tangrams monthly to learn to recognize things are made up from different shapes. This month we had some animal shapes that they could create with the different colored tangrams. They took turns doing the different ones and shared the shapes.
Some animals carry their babies in a pouch, like the Kangaroo does. The kids loved the Make & Play pouches so they could hop around like a kangaroo with their joey in the pouch. They got to color and cut out their joey. We are learning to bubble cut, which means to cut AROUND the picture instead of on the black line.
This week our letter is Cc. They have to “find” the pictures on the page that start with that sound and the upper and lower case letters. We use the page for the younger kids to ask them what all of the pictures are so they can show us what they know.
This had to be the most interesting activity for the week. They enjoyed getting under the table to do their work. It was different and it kept their attention for quite awhile. I have to say, Experience Early Learning comes up with some pretty cool ideas.
If you saw something you thought was fun, let me know! Stay tuned for more preschool adventures.
