Book REview: What We Hide and Where Secrets Lie by Colleen Coble and Rick Acker

WHAT WE HIDE

This is my first book of Colleen’s. I decided this year I was going to branch out of my usual genre and this title intrigued me. Her and Rick worked wonderfully together, and I look forward to more of their collaborations.

The writing was well done! The narrator on Audible was perfect. I LOVED the first-person point of view of the ONE character that seems to be behind all the trouble.  We get to wonder who it might be throughout the book! I was completely clueless until the reveal. The main characters are written in third person.

One thing after another kept me on my toes as they tried to unravel the mystery. I loved the court scenes. I’m a big Perry Mason fan so it was neat to see all the detective work and cross examinations.

The main characters have delt with a serious loss and they handled it very differently. He turns to drinking and she runs from that instead of standing by him and helping him quit. This book starts after time has passed. He has gotten on a better path, stopped drinking and wants to see if they still have a chance together. She doesn't want to feel those old feelings for him, but she just can't help it. She still loves him. Before she admits she loves him, she files for divorce and gives him the papers when he comes to tell her he wants a second chance.

Mysteries are solved but many more are uncovered and waiting to be resolved. We only think we know the answers.
WHERE SECRETS LIE

Book two in the Tupelo Grove series did not disappoint. This book starts where the first book left off. It is filled with even more mystery and family secrets that lead to more to be discovered in this book and the next.

We delve deeper into the issue of stolen artifacts and smuggling while the university that they work for is on the verge of financial collapse. Savannah and Hez end up in more danger as they strive to save the school and solve the mysteries. There is so much more going on behind the scenes with the university that I am not even sure they have shown us all of them.

There are also some strange things going on that have nothing to do with the school but cause problems for them personally as they try to rebuild their relationship. I guessed who was behind those things pretty easily after the first book. There is only one person against them being together.

There are so many twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. I listened to it in one day on Audible right after I finished book one. I can't wait for book three to come out next month.
