Book REview: Blueprint for Love by Penny Zeller

Picture
He’s a grumpy contractor.
She’s a bubbly interior designer.
Will an unexpected alliance be the blueprint for love?

Eager to prove herself to her demanding boss, Jeanette Wertz travels to Cloverdale Falls with the hopes that helping renovate the local B&B will boost her interior design career. She never imagined the grumpy man she unexpectedly meets on the first day, when her car breaks down on Main Street, is the same man she'll be working with on the renovations. When her every suggestion meets resistance, Jeanette fears she'll never accomplish her assignment in time to meet the deadline. An assignment that could cost her the job of her dreams.

Cameron Krausman enjoys running the family business, but what he doesn't enjoy is going toe-to-toe with a pretty but opinionated interior designer who has an alternative suggestion for every one of his recommendations. Not only must Cameron help his dad recover from a near-fatal health event, but he must now also contend with Jeanette Wertz and her countless ideas.

When differences morph into friendly bets—most of which Cameron loses—things begin to slowly change between the two rivals. Can a series of competitions and an old building in desperate need of an update be enough to turn rivalry into romance?

Can be read as a standalone or enjoyed with the other books in the series.

MY REVIEW

Welcome back to Cloverdale Falls! Small Town Shenanigans is the PERFECT name for this series. I love these quirky secondary characters that "steal the show" every time you turn around. I can almost picture myself there in the middle of it all.

We've had the chance to meet Hudson and his cousin Braxton in books one and two. Now we get a closer look at Braxton's sister, Jeanette. We also get to know Cameron, the "grumpy" contractor. He is only grumpy because he sees Jeanette as controlling and opinionated. Really, she just knows her stuff and isn't afraid to stand her ground. He is really a kind and compassionate person, she just doesn't know it, yet.

Cameron and Jeanette are serious about their work but have very different opinions on how a renovation job should go. He’s got the builder sense, but she has designer sense. I just LOVED how they fell for each other without even realizing it. They kept trying to convince themselves that they didn't see the other as a potential date, yet they go on MANY such dates under the guise of losing a bet. The readers can see how much they look forward to their time together, but it takes them awhile to admit it to themselves. They work very well together despite their differences of opinion and the jobs they do turn out to everyone's delight, except her boss. As they learn more about each other and find out the hard situations in each of their lives, the ice between them begins to crack and before they even realize it, is gone.

I like this series so much because it takes you away from the big city hustle and bustle. People are down to earth and they somehow find joy in the simplest things. There is much to laugh about in this series. Caring people with funny quirks fill that town. You never quite know what they will be up to next.

Get your copy of Blueprint for Love to find out how they come together in work and love. Don't forget to grab the other two books in the series while you're at it! They can be read alone but where's the fun in that? Recipe for Love and Under the Mistletoe are waiting for you, too!
