Baby Animals
January 6, 2020
Our Experience Early Learning theme for January is Baby Animals. This post may contain affiliate links. We have four different sub-themes; Waiting For Babies, Carrying Babies, Keeping Babies Safe and How Babies Change. Each theme comes with its own music CD. This is such a fun theme because we are talking about how different animals do things. I wanted to give you a quick overview of some extra resources we will be using that either come with our curriculum or that we bought extra.
We like to add a few new learning resources to go with each month’s theme. We found this animal puzzle set that goes great with our baby animals theme. It helps the kids learn what each baby animal is called.
We found this set of shapes with animal cards to use this month and beyond. On the back of the card it shows the children what shapes they need to make the picture. They can gather the pieces required before they create the picture or do it as they build them. It was a really fun addition.
Each month there are matching resources from our Experience Early Learning curriculum that includes a book, puzzle and magnet set. We have a magnet board on the door. We put them on the door so they can play with them the entire month. They can retell the story using the magnets or make up a new one. We enjoy getting new puzzles for our collection.
Experience Early Learning gives us a Forest Friends book each month to teach us a different character trait. Our Forest Friends story for this month is Puppy’s Visit. It is a story about fairness. We have cut outs for the characters in the story so that when we tell it we can hold them up for the kids to see. Another option is to let the kids hold one and when they hear that character mentioned in the story they raise it up. We will read this story several times during the month.
Our I Can Read book for this month is Do You See Me? It has sight word pointers for jump, run and see. We like to use these books throughout the month. The children put their copy in their book basket, which they are allowed to read during quiet time, early arrival or even at the end of the day when we are waiting for pick up. We keep an extra copy and the sight words in a bag to use at different times of the year for extra reading practice.
That is a glimpse of Baby Animals and the fun we are going to have this month. I can’t wait to share more with you over the next four weeks. Let me know if you see something that you think looks fun. I love getting feedback.
