Weather & Seasons

Our topic for October is Weather & Seasons. What fun we are having! This post may contain affiliate links. As always, our curriculum has topics that catch the attention of the children and they learn so much because of it.
Despite the issues of having to “stay home”, we have been fortunate to be able to continue here. Our classes are small right now, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t having a great time. We are using Experience Curriculum for a foundation to connect our different age groups and grades. We have two that are in Kindergarten, one in PreK and a couple that are in the 2 year old class. Each does their activities to their ability. But doing it WITH the older children helps the younger ones SEE what they can do once they master the skills to do it.
Experience Curriculum has created some new resources and is giving them to us one month at a time. As always, we get a theme poster and each day has a topic. We have three letters each month that we work on, two numbers, a shape and a color. That has always been the case, but they changed how they do it and we are loving it!
This month our curriculum included a brand new weather board. I decided to get these black boards at Dollar Tree to put our different things on. I love how they are interactive for the children. They get to work on the days of the week while talking about the weather each day. And it came with a cute little song. My kids LOVE music time.
Each month, Experience Curriculum includes words for the children to lean and gives us blank ones for the children to pick words they want to learn to spell that start with those letters. Each of my Kindergarten students has an index card file box. Those words are written on individual cards for them to practice reading. Each month they will add the six words that are already chosen for them and six others they choose.
Just ONE of the great things about Experience Curriculum is their Invitation To Create activities. The children are given a theme, resources and a picture to look at while we talk about what we are learning. Then they get to take those things and make their own creations. Today, our topic was summer and they made cherry trees using sticks, tissue paper and red dot stickers, plus markers or crayons. These kids LOVE using markers! Sometimes, their creations look nothing like the others and sometimes they resemble each others to a certain extent. Today they all looked like TREES! But still not exactly the same. The sticks were all different and they put their paper leaves and cherries in different spots. They did a fantastic job.
I can’t wait to share even more of the fun things we will be doing this fall and beyond. Now if we could just get some cool weather here in the wonderful state of Texas! How is the weather were you are?
