Tree Birds
April 26, 2020
This week’s topics were some of their favorites. This post may contain affiliate links. We talked about “bluebird”, “woodpecker”, “eagle”, “hummingbird” and “chickadee”. We looked at lots of videos of the different birds that we talked about.
One of the best crafts was the Creative Corner Make & Play woodpecker oscillation experiment. They used a rubber band and straw to make the bird peck as he went down the rubber band that was stretched apart.
For our I Spy letter X the kids took tiny pieces of paper and dropped them on the paper saying the picture they landed on. We did that because we learned that the eagle can see from a VERY long way off and then dive down to catch it’s prey.
Since we started some virtual lessons and recorded them, we let the kids that came to our school watch the recorded lessons. They enjoyed doing the lessons with their friends who were doing them from home. We read the story and then they made a puppet and drew a picture of themselves being generous to someone else like the character in this months Forest Friends story.
This was for sure a super fun Invitation to Create activity! We watched videos with real hummingbirds and learned so much about them. They enjoyed painting the flowers (mini cupcake liners) that they had glued to the paper and pretended they were hummingbirds with a straw. The kids were amazed at how fast their wings were.
Next week is Exotic Birds! We are going to have so much fun! Stay tuned!
