Read Across America 2020
March 3, 2020
I love books! Books are my favorite thing to collect. The ONE thing I can never have too many of, despite the fact that my husband might beg to differ. I teach my children and the children in my school to LOVE books. This post may contain affiliate links. They usually learn to read long before they leave our school. We give them books monthly and for all occasions. I don’t just collect children’s books, I have books for all ages and many different types.
We found some fun activities to do with the kid at the dollar spot. The dice game is a favorite that they are still playing AFTER the one day we celebrated Dr. Seuss. We USED to spend an entire week on Read Across America but our new curriculum is so full of wonderful activities that I just couldn’t spare more than one day for it. I asked the kids to pick THEIR favorite book so we could take pictures. We enjoy finding reasons to take pictures of the kids. It’s fun to catch their silly expressions for the camera.
Each child over the age of three gets a reader every month from our curriculum. They have a reading basket full of them plus other early readers that I have added to their library. When children graduate from our school, they take all of them to add to their home library. It is pretty neat to see them taking a book out of their basket and hear them reading it.
My youngest loves to take pictures of all the kids in our school, but especially her nieces and nephews. Our oldest grand picked Horton. I SHOULD have grabbed our stuffed Horton but I didn’t even think about it. She is so close to learning to read on her own. I can’t wait to hear her read these books aloud to me.
I not quite sure what made him pick THIS book as his favorite but he did and that is totally okay. He is VERY into making silly faces for the camera. It is a challenge to get a picture that isn’t blurry because he is always on the move, as well.
This little man has loved books from the time he could get his hands on one. His mommy has read to him since before he was born. One of his favorite things to do is grab a bunch of books and sit down and read them. We catch him reading them to himself out loud and it is so cute. He is the typical 21 month old and we have to watch him so he doesn’t put them in his mouth or get ahold of paper books and pull the pages out. We are doing our best to teach him how to take care of and treasure books as we do.

Since we are talking about books and reading, I thought I would share what I am reading right now. I am on book two of the Bride Ships series, The Runaway Bride. Jody Hedlund is one of my favorite authors and I add every book she writes to my library. I’m thankful that I am on her review team for this series. Be on the lookout for my review.
What is YOUR favorite book and/or author? What was your favorite book as a child? I had many favorites as a child. Boxcar Children series is one that I read and read again many times. Another was Key to the Treasure, which is out of print. I actually have a hardback copy of it. As an adult, I love to collect special copies of classics, just to add value to my library.
