Places We Live
June 5, 2021
For the month of June we are talking about Habitats & Homes. The first week we learned all about the different places people live. This post may contain affiliate links. They didn't realize how many different places people could live. A few places we talked about were houses, apartments, RV's, hotels, houseboats and castles.
Our first Invitation to Create was painting a house shape. They were given whatever colors of paint they wanted and a painting sponge. I was really great watching them get creative. Some even did the roof one color and the other part of the house another.

Our first Invitation to Create was painting a house shape. They were given whatever colors of paint they wanted and a painting sponge. I was really great watching them get creative. Some even did the roof one color and the other part of the house another.
We learned about apartments and how some are really tall. They had a fun Make & Play with the alphabet. They had to find the match on the "apartment". It was fun for all ages. We played it different ways. The youngest kids just put the matching letters on after telling us what letter it was. The older kids had to tell us what sound they made and a word that started with that letter.
Our theme posters has a house on it where the kids can see inside the house. The I Spy Glasses had some fun things for the kids to look for in the poster. Each one had a question on it that they kids had to answer and the teacher's guide gave us more questions to have them answer.
We moved the bigger kids to the large brown table. We had one of the three year old's refuse to stay in the other room with his class. We let him participate. We were coloring the letter Y pictures and doing word flash cards. He was actually having fun saying the words with the other kids.
We have had so much rain the entire month of May and some of June. Some are storms with the loud noises and the kids get a bit nervous. When that happens we take out our Katie and the Magic Umbrella book and doll. It helps the kids understand more about storms so they don't have to be so afraid.

We talked about people living in an RV or hotel. They made a Make & Play road map so they could take play cars along the road. They had fun drawing a house or apartment on their journals. They only did the covers that day. We try to do a page here and there during the month. We had a really fun shape puzzle for the kids. Even the 3 year old was able to do it and really enjoyed putting the matching shapes on the picture.
We had a great time looking at videos of different types of houseboats. Some were super fancy and some were very down to earth. I liked the ones that looked more rugged instead of like a fancy apartment. For their Invitation to Create they had shapes they colored and glued together to make a boat. Most didn't really LOOK like a boat but that was ok. They had fun doing it. Our story for this month was Goldilocks and it had a different twist to it but it was very cute. We had a puzzle, magnet set and book, like we do every month.
It was a full week of fun. Check back next week for another adventure at BCAA.
