October Fun
November 5, 2020
This year has been full of challenges but one of the thing that has stayed fun is our school. This post may contain affiliate links. The month of October was filled with some fun activities and crafts from our wonderful curriculum. My assistant teacher, aka. my daughter, created this fun board above our October Scentsy warmer, Jack Skellington. I told her NOW she has to do it every month!
Each month they have a journal to work on. The kids really loved adding cotton balls to the cover of their journals. They worked on the letters C, N and U plus the numbers 3 and 4. Brown was the color and rectangle the shape. Each of those things were worked on in this journal. It is so fun to see how they make their journals all their own.
I think the fall activities are my favorite since it’s the season I enjoy the most because of the weather and the colors. They LOVE to use paint! Experience Curriculum adds so many great opportunities to create with different resources each month. They were given a leaf stencil and we put paint on the large white paper covering the table. We gave them a sponge for each color so they could do that and then told them anytime they could mix the colors, if they wanted.
The kids went out and gathered leaves and sticks to create some leaf creatures. They were given a picture to see what COULD be done and then they got to pick what leaves to use and what they wanted to make. I like to be able to display them in the front window so they can show their parents. They are always so proud to see them when they arrive and leave.
This project was one of our Invitation to Create activities. There were given paper, a cup, a paper straw and things to cut and tape with. They got to decide how their flowers would look and to cut the paper on their own without help, unless they asked for it.
Experience Curriculum loves to use nature items in their crafts. We got sticks and leaves to make a den for a bear and they had a little cut out bear to put in it. I found the book in my school library that went perfectly with our craft.
We did a parent’s day out and I used two of our crafts for that day. We did snowflakes and snow storm. For the snowflake they used markers to color the coffee filter whatever color they wanted. Then I helped them fold it several times and cut out little pieces. Then they used a dropper to make the color run.
The snowstorm was another Invitation to Create. They were given white and blue paint and a feather. They could use the feather to paint with and even use it as trees, if they wanted, like the example picture.
I’m sorry it took so long to get our October school fun up. They did so many other things but those are the highlights for the month. I’ve got some other fun family adventures for October that I need to share, so stay tuned!
