Global Passport
February 6, 2021
We started a new theme for the month of February. I shared that with you in my post last week. It is Global Passport. This post may contain affiliate links. This first week we are talking about things we need to go on a trip. Some of the kids have done a bit of travel and some have done very little. Most children haven’t done much in the past year since no one has done much of anything. We are enjoying our pretend play as we “travel the world”. Many of our books are from Usborne Books & More. They are some of the best made books with such vibrant colors.
I just love our curriculum and how they make every topic so much fun. Our four weekly sub-themes are Travel Tools, World Market, Natural Wonders and Man-Made Wonders. We will “travel” all over the world learning about different things that make those places and people special and unique.
We gathered the many things we had to go along with our subject and got our circle time board all set up. We gathered books about different places around the world. They always enjoy the magnet set that goes along with our theme. It is the characters from a book that Experience Curriculum send us. We have a big container of our monthly magnet sets so we can use them anytime we want. We decided to put our theme poster and paper magnifying glasses at eye level so they can play with it anytime they want to step away from another activity to work on it.
We also get our puzzles out that go with our theme. We ended up having a lot of fun puzzles for travel. Most are very old puzzles but we really like them a lot. They make today’s puzzles a lot easier so the challenge isn’t hard enough for the older kids. Notice the puzzle on the bottom left, it goes with our magnet set. The kids love all the things that are connected.
We had so much fun making the suitcases and wallets. We found some fun travel stickers to put on the suitcases. The children colored and cut out paper clothes to put IN their suitcases. They got me to draw the clothes on white paper so they could color and cut it out. I helped them when they needed it. They decorated their wallets and cut out their paper currency, aka money. We are learning so many new things. Both of these are Make & Play items. These are staying at school for the entire four weeks so we can use them in our dramatic play. I am loving to see the things they are coming up with during that dramatic play.
In an Invitation to Create activity, the kids got to cut out their globe in blue paper to represent the water. They drew and cut out pieces of land for continents. After gluing the land on the water, they got to put some animal stickers on the land. It doesn’t LOOK like a “real” globe but they sure turned out good. They enjoyed that because it was similar to the continent activity board that they enjoy doing.
We set up a STEAM station where the kids could take the resources we had and create a wheel. It was fun to see what kind of wheel they would make. We have different STEAM activities each day of the week.
Some of the instruments we purchased separately but MOST of our coolest instruments came from our Experience Early Learning monthly Toy Box. They put one instrument each month. The drums are some of my favorites. They enjoy music time. I do, too, UNTIL they start playing SUPER loud.
We had so much fun giving the kids paper airplanes during the time they did outside time. Even the younger kids had fun with them. The weather was perfect this week. We had fun playing outside almost every day.
One day they kicked the soccer ball all over the yard. They still have fun on the climbing toys we have. I want to add some newer things to the backyard because hew is fun but this climber has really held up well over the years.
Check back next weekend to see the different things we made and learned about. We will be making some really fun Make & Play crafts.
