Global Passport Wrap Up
February 27, 2021
After a week of winter woes, we wrapped up our February theme, Global Passport. We had to pick and choose which things to do in the ten lessons we had left. This post may contain affiliate links. I’m sad we didn’t get to “visit” all the places we were supposed to “go”. The weekend of the snow storm, we had a PDO and made the camera craft. It was a fun activity for the kids. They got to cut out pictures of some of the places we talked about this month. I left a slot open on one side for them to slip the photos in the camera so it looked like a real one. They had so much fun with that Make & Play craft. They used it with their suitcase and wallet to “travel”.
We talked about the Great Pyramids and made one. I have to admit that was a strange topic. I did my best to explain what a mummy is. “A body wrapped in cloths.” Kids love to put things on their head, that is why they love making headbands. I thought it was cute so I took a quick pic. We watched the Magic School Bus episode where they are building a bridge to get across the bathroom because it helped them understand some things about construction.
I think I enjoyed their cathedral collages most because of the colors. I decided to cut them out instead of letting them do it. Older kids COULD have done it but I chose not to go that route. We encouraged them to build their design and make sure they had it just right before putting glue. We also found a video that showed the St Basil’s Cathedral so they knew it was a real thing.
We got out the geoboards to go along with our week of Man-Made Wonders because we talked about construction and building things. We taught the kids they had to put their finger on the peg after slipping the band over it BEFORE stretching it across the board AND when taking it off.
These two items were really fun. We put our postcards in our writing area and the kids sometimes worked on their passports in that same area while other times they just sat at the big table together. I love that Experience Early Learning gives us fun resources to put in our writing area each month.
Don’t ask me why they are playing with dinos AND science tubes together but I didn’t try and stop them. As long as they are having a good time, we don’t stop them from exploring. We got the science stuff from a Toy Box that we get monthly from Experience Early Learning. We don’t always stay on topic if we just need something new to drag out.
We have so many resources and we try to rotate them to keep the excitement going. This week marked the first week with some silly Halloween songs with Blippi! Another time when I let them do it if they are having fun and not driving me crazy!
We have lots of fun stamps for different subjects. Some we got in the Toy Box and some we ordered ourselves. They are learning how to “ink” the stamp and then press it down on the paper just right so it comes out clear.
These word puzzles can just be out on a tray for the kids to do quickly or more than once, depending on the child. Each month we have one to show the kids how they can use their letters to make actual words!
Theses monthly readers HAVE to be one of my favorite resources each month. I suppose it is because reading to me is LIFE! We are working hard to teach these kiddos how to ready! They can build sentences and find those same ones IN the book.
I hope you enjoyed our Global Passport. Even with our unexpected week, we all still have a great time. Join us next month as we learn about Space & Sky! Until next time, stay safe.
