Cooking Class Cupcakes
November 27, 2019
This year we’ve brought back a fun “class” that we used to do but haven’t in a few years. We have decided to change it a bit by adding basic kitchen safety and teaching them how to use the different kitchen utensils.
The kids love cooking because it is something they see their parents doing. Children WANT to learn how to be independent. It’s up to us to give them a safe environment to do that. We will be purchasing new child-safe kitchen equipment throughout the year as we plan out new recipes for the kids to make.
Some days, they may just be helping with food prep, like learning how to cut safely. I have found some kid-safe knives and they will learn how to cut soft fruits and veggies. They will learn how to measure liquids and solids. They will also learn to try now foods because they had a hand in making it.
Cooking is filled with so many different “subjects”; math, chemistry and reading comprehension, just to name a few. Plus, they can learn about different cultures with the food choices you make.
We will do a variety of foods throughout the year, some seasonal/holiday and some just regular dishes that kids eat at home or school regularly. We may even give one of those monthly kids cooking boxes a try. We found several different ones. If you have tried them, comment and let me know what you liked and/or didn’t like about them.
We will be posting pictures of our classes with the finished product. If you have a recipe idea, please share!
