Color Run Tradition 2019
April 3, 2019
The Color Run is a tradition for us since 2013. We have only missed one or two out of the last seven races. Sometimes is all of us and sometimes it is a few of us. Sometimes friends join us, like this year. Sometimes our grands are a part of it.
It is so important to not only build family traditions throughout our lives but to fit in healthy ones. We need to teach our children and grandchildren that it is FUN to be active.
We live in the age of electronics. Everyone has a phone or tablet in their hand or are watching TV, playing a video game, something along those lines. That, along with the unhealthy additives to our foods, is a top cause for obesity and poor health in our country.
We have to change it starting at HOME! As parents or grandparents, we need to set the example. I can’t say I am totally FREE of those things. Because I’m not. I can be just a guilty about swiping through my social media pages at all hours of the day and night. When I wake up in the middle of the night, I grab it and CAN get caught up in looking instead of trying to fall back to sleep right away.
Every single day, we need to build active moments into our lives and step away from sedentary activities, even if it is just for 30 minutes to an hour, twice a day. Just move! Go for a fast walk around your neighborhood, put on a workout video (so many wonderful options there!), head to the gym, go outside and toss a ball with the kids or go for a bike ride.
What are some things YOUR family enjoys together? How to you take the lead in a healthier lifestyle?
