Camouflage Bugs
May 22, 2020
This week’s topics were all about Camouflage Bugs. This post may contain affiliate links. We talked about butterflies, moths, leaf insects, praying mantis and walking sticks.
The kids created a butterfly puppets with paper bags, pipe cleaners, coffee filters and markers. They colored the coffee filter with markers by putting small dots. Then they sprinkled it with water to make the color run. After it was dry we cut it and glued it on each side of the bag. They turned out so cute!
We taught the kids the difference between butterflies and moths. Moths come out at night! They got to glue tissue paper circles to the moth pattern and glue a straw to it for their Make & Play craft. They had fun “flying” it around the room.
We watched video of leaf insects and the kids were fascinated. Hey, let me be honest, so was I! It is so hard to tell where the bug starts and the leaf does. In the Invitation to Create activity they got to take paper, leaf shapes and toothpicks with glue and markers and create a bug.
